Paulo Machado

Paulo has a passion for designing inspired products that empower individuals and make the world a better place.

Paulo's work includes artificial intelligence, learning platforms, and drawing on the combined power of the crowds and technology. He was a pioneer in web-based learning in the 90s and wysiwyg authoring platforms for multimedia, e-learning, and intelligent tutors in the 80s.

Paulo's career began in the 80s at the Centre Mondial Informatique (CMIRH), of Seymour Papert and Nicholas Negroponte, the precursor to MIT's Media Lab. Paulo founded five technology startups and led research for US agencies, technology companies, and educational and financial institutions.

His work has been the recipient of awards from the U.S. Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), the U.S. Office of the Secretary of Defense (OSD), the French Departments of Education and Research, the State of Hawaii, and the media.

Paulo pursued a Ph.D. in Engineering (CS/AI) at the Paris-Sud University, and holds a Ph.D. ABD in Artificial Intelligence from University Pierre et Marie Curie (UPMC, Paris 6) and an M.S.and B.S. in Computer Science from Paris-Sud University. He completed with distinction business and technology classes from Stanford University. His expertise includes startup strategy, innovation design, artificial intelligence, advanced software, and learning and cognitive sciences.

Paulo is a native-level speaker of English, French, and Portuguese.
